Kathleen Morrison is a celebrated Canadian soprano, arts leader, and the Founder and Artistic and Executive Director of Alberta Vocal Arts (AVA), a rapidly growing non profit dedicated to bringing opera to the people through innovative performances, education, and community collaboration. Known for her powerful spinto soprano and compelling stage presence, Kathleen has been recognized across Alberta for both her artistic excellence and her impact on the cultural landscape.
Kathleen’s international career includes significant engagements in Germany, where she became known for her commanding performances of the Queen of the Night, a role she sang more than 250 times in a two year period. She was the only Canadian invited to perform at the official 25th anniversary celebrations of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and she served as the official anthem singer for the Canadian Embassy in Berlin. These accomplishments established her as a versatile and in demand artist with a strong international profile.
A dynamic performer, Kathleen is a 2025 YYC Music Awards nominee for Best Live Performer, an Inspired Albertan featured on CTV News (2021), an a nominee for numerous education awards. These distinctions highlight her dual reputation as an artist of exceptional skill and a community focused cultural builder.
Alongside her performance career, Kathleen is an in demand adjudicator, sought after educator, and the creator of the successful Aria Going to the Opera? Edu-concert series with the National Music Centre. She also leads the acclaimed Solo Voice Studio at Renert School, and her private Voice by Kathleen studio, where her singers consistently earn major scholarships, artistic recognition and leading roles.
Through AVA, Kathleen is shaping a new operatic ecosystem in Calgary, built on accessibility, collaboration, and meaningful opportunities for mid career artists, while continuing to captivate audiences with her signature sound and storytelling.
She is currently pursuing her Masters in Music at the University of Calgary, with a research focused on Vocal Trauma, Silence and Artistic Identity. A born and raised Calgarian, Kathleen enjoys time with her champion Samoyeds, Alfie and Rosie, and is an award-winning Certified Trick Dog Instructor and Vice-President of the Samoyed Association of Canada.
